At Widewell Primary Academy, we strive to improve children's understanding of how to remain safe on the Internet and any devices, games or apps that allow them access to the Internet. In order to do this, each class has a specific e-Safety lesson every term, these lessons are progressive across the school. To ensure that the children realise the importance of keeping themselves safe they revisit the key messages in their regular Computing lessons. Each week there is a section of the newsletter that is dedicated to supporting children's online safety at home.
Each year we join in with National Safer Internet Day. This is held in February and all the children take part in a range of activities that are linked to the theme for the year. Also, as part of the day, we have a special assembly when children from each class share what they have learnt with the rest of the school.
CEOP:
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) is a service offered by the Police which offers support with keeping children safe online. If you feel you need to make a report about something that is happening online which is making you or someone you know feel uncomfortable, please click here. They also offer a range of resources for children and parents about how to keep safe when they are online, please click here.
Common Sense Media:
With the development of apps, games and other online services, it can be difficult to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology. Although it is vital for children to explore and learn through using the Internet, we also strive to ensure that they are safe and secure when doing so. In order to do this, we use a resource called Common Sense Media. It offers reviews, age guidance and an overview of a range of services including: apps, games, DVDs, music and social media. Alongside this, it provides advice for parents and carers on how they can keep their children safe online. Please click here for their website.
