I retired at 66 after working for the NHS for 40 years. I started my NHS career as a porter, trained as an ODA (Operating Department Assistant) working to support the anaesthetists and surgeons in the operating theatre. Then I moved on to train as a RMN, (registered mental nurse) working at Moorhaven as a psychiatric nurse, then in the community as a CPN (community psychiatric nurse). I have held a number of ward manager positions at Plympton and Mount Gould Hospitals. I later worked as a senior human resources manager for the community mental health services for a number of years before transferring back into a senior manager position within the mental health services. In in October 2011 we transferred all of the community NHS services from the PCT into PCH (Plymouth Community Healthcare), which later became Livewell Southwest. For the last two years plus of my NHS employment, I worked as the project manager for Cornwall's new CAMHS (Children and Adolescents Mental Health Services) unit, Sowenna, which is based at Bodmin. Since retiring, I have been a volunteer at the Covid vaccination site at Home Park for the past 8 months. I am very honoured and pleased to be a member of the governing body for Widewell and look forward to supporting the staff, pupils and fellow governors in any way I can.
