Our Commitment to Inclusive Education at Sennen School

At Sennen School, we strive to provide every child with a broad and balanced education within an environment that fosters encouragement, acceptance, respect for achievement, and sensitivity to individual needs. Our goal is to create a setting where all pupils can thrive.

We adapt both the curriculum and the learning environment to meet the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Every child benefits from high-quality teaching that is tailored to individual needs, ensuring all pupils make good progress. Lessons are differentiated for groups and individuals, and where additional support is required, it is first provided within the classroom.

For some children, this classroom support is sufficient. For others, more detailed plans with specific targets and strategies may be necessary. These plans are developed in partnership with parents/carers and, where appropriate, the child. Additional support may include small-group work or one-to-one interventions designed to help pupils achieve their individual goals.

Our SENCO works closely with teachers and support staff to oversee SEND provision and monitor progress. When needed, we collaborate with external agencies to assess and plan for a child’s needs. Parents and carers are involved at every stage of this process.

To ensure all children can access the curriculum and reach their potential, we take the following actions:

  • Adapt the curriculum and school activities so all pupils can participate.
  • Support pupils to achieve their full potential, regardless of any difficulty or disability.
  • Ensure staff understand individual needs and teach in ways that are appropriate for each child.
  • Provide opportunities for pupils to build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.
  • Work in partnership with parents/carers, pupils, and external agencies to meet SEND needs.
  • Offer provision that enables children with SEND to develop their abilities, interests, and talents.
  • Identify SEND at the earliest opportunity to enable timely intervention and support.
  • Ensure all children with SEND are fully included in every aspect of school life.
  • Regularly review our policies and practices to achieve the best outcomes for all pupils.
